Terms of use

Last reviewed 27 July 2026. Written to be read rather than to be survived — if any of it is unclear, tell us and we will rewrite the paragraph.

Editorial content

Everything here is editorial opinion and factual reporting of what companies publish about themselves. It is not advice about your particular property.

No professional advice

Nothing on this site is legal, tax, accounting or investment advice. County rules and tax obligations change; confirm your own position with the county planning department and the Hawaiʻi Department of Taxation.

Accuracy

We verify from primary sources and date every reading, but companies change their own pages without telling us. Always confirm current terms directly with the company.

Our interest

Our own picks are our own commercial interest and are labelled as such.

Third-party sites

We are not responsible for the content or practices of any site we link to.

Trademarks

All company names and marks belong to their owners and are used for identification only.

Who we are and what this is

Hale & Host is an independent editorial publication about vacation-rental management and host software in Hawaiʻi. Using the site means accepting these terms. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.

Permitted use

Read it, print it, send it to your co-owner, quote it with attribution and a link. What you may not do is republish the site wholesale, scrape it to train a commercial product that reproduces it, or present our research as your own work. If you want to reuse a table or a market page in something you are publishing, ask us — the answer is usually yes.

Company information

Every company fact on this site was read from that company's own website on the date shown on the page and linked back to its source. Companies change their own pages. Treat what you read here as a dated reading rather than a live feed, and confirm current terms with the company before you rely on them.

Rankings are editorial opinion

Our orderings are judgements applied by named editors using published criteria. They are opinion, they are not a certification, and they are not a guarantee of any company's performance for you. Two owners with different properties in the same street can reasonably reach different conclusions from the same page.

No professional advice

Nothing here is legal, tax, accounting, insurance or investment advice. County short-term-rental rules and Hawaiʻi tax obligations change and are specific to your parcel; confirm your own position with the county planning department, the Hawaiʻi Department of Taxation and, where it matters, your own professional advisers.

Limitation of liability

We publish carefully and correct promptly, but we cannot accept liability for decisions taken on the basis of this site. Your contract is with whichever company you hire, and that contract — not this website — governs what you are owed.

Third-party sites

We link to companies, government bodies and reference sources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.

Trademarks and names

All company names, brands and marks belong to their owners and appear here for identification only. That includes Ad 2 Hawaiʻi, which has no connection to this site — see the non-affiliation statement.

Governing approach

If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If you think something here is unfair, write to us; we would rather fix the wording than argue about it.

Automated access and reuse by machines

Search engines are welcome; the site is deliberately open in robots.txt and publishes a sitemap. Bulk scraping that reproduces the site's content elsewhere, or that exists to strip the sourcing and dating from our research and republish it as someone else's, is not. The dating and the source links are the point of this work — content lifted without them is worse than useless to the reader who ends up with it.

If you are a company discussed on this site

You do not need our permission to quote your own profile page, and you are welcome to link to it. What you may not do is present a position in one of our rankings as an award, a certification or an endorsement, or use our name in advertising in a way that implies we vouch for your service. We rank published information; that is a narrower claim than it sometimes gets turned into.

Availability

This is a small, self-funded publication. We make no promise that the site will be available at any particular time, that it will be free of errors, or that any page will remain at the same address forever — though we do keep old addresses working where we can, because dead links are a tax on readers.

Contact and complaints

Everything, including complaints about these terms, goes to the same inbox via the contact page. We would much rather hear from you directly than have you work around a rule that turns out to be badly worded.

The spirit of these terms

They exist to make two things clear and nothing more: that this is journalism rather than advice, and that our research should not be lifted, stripped of its sourcing and republished as somebody else's. There is no clause here designed to catch you out, no arbitration requirement, no waiver of anything you would mind waiving.

If you are an owner reading a market page to decide who to call, none of this affects you. If you are a company deciding whether you can quote your own profile, the answer is yes. If you are a researcher wanting the underlying dataset, ask. The only behaviour these terms are written against is wholesale republication, which harms readers rather than us — a copy of this site without its dates and source links is a set of unverifiable claims about real businesses.

How this page relates to the rest of the site

Our editorial standards — what we verify, what we refuse to publish and how corrections work — are set out separately in the editorial policy, and the criteria behind every ranking are on how we rank. Our commercial interest is declared on the about page, and our lack of any connection to Ad 2 Hawaiʻi is stated in full on the non-affiliation statement. Between those four pages and this one, there should be nothing about how this site operates that you have to guess at.
